What this department covers

Department of Animal Nutrition was established in 2018 in the Faculty of Animal Production and Technology, Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur. The department is focused on providing qualified and trained manpower to address the nutritional issues of Southern Punjab, especially the Cholistan desert. Its vision is to assure food security for human beings and sustainable livestock productivity through animal nutrition and feed technologies.

  • Teaching and research in animal feed science and technology
  • Nutritional evaluation of local forages, crop residues and low-grade industrial by-products
  • Efficient and economical ration formulation for poultry and ruminant livestock
  • Improvement of nutritive value of low-quality feedstuffs and detoxification of naturally occurring toxins in indigenous feeds

The mission of the Animal Nutrition Department is to play a key role in food security and improve the socio-economic status of livestock farmers. Research focuses on problem-oriented work, including chemical and biological treatment of low-quality feedstuffs, recycling of animal wastes in the diets of small and large ruminants, and improving the feeding value of indigenous feeds. The department is equipped with undergraduate and postgraduate laboratories and emphasizes quality education and practical skills.
