Clinical diagnosis and treatment across species.
Medicine
Veterinary medicine is the branch of veterinary science concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, disorders and injuries in animals. The Department of Medicine at Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CUVAS), Bahawalpur, provides clinical education, diagnostic services, treatment and research covering a wide range of domesticated and wild animal species.
The CUVAS Medicine Team has broad clinical expertise and works in collaboration with specialists and species-specific groups across the university. The department is actively involved in disease diagnosis, treatment and comprehensive consultation for animal owners and referring veterinarians. Its clinical laboratories support advanced techniques including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), polymerase chain reaction (PCR), complete blood count and emergency critical care.
The department's mission includes establishing a molecular diagnostic laboratory for infectious diseases, conducting field-based research and extending research outcomes to small-scale farmers, and establishing outreach centers to provide clinical services to remote areas. Its plan of action focuses on centralized clinical case recording, advanced treatment and case reporting, postgraduate and graduate training, 24/7 outdoor and ambulatory veterinary services, online consultancy and hands-on training for farmers and field veterinarians.
